Install Pake
The Mac, Windows and Linux desktop app is coming soon. Use the free Pake CLI.
Requirements
| Mac | Windows | |
|---|---|---|
| System | macOS 14 or later | Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or later |
| Processor | Apple silicon or Intel | x64 or ARM64 |
| Also needed | Nothing | Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime for the apps you make |
You do not need Node.js, Rust, Xcode or Visual Studio.
Mac
Open the downloaded DMG and drag Pake into the Applications folder.
Pake has one window. Closing it with the close button or Cmd + W only hides it, and Pake keeps running in the Dock; click the Dock icon to bring the window back. Cmd + Q quits, and waits for an app that is still being installed.
Windows
Run the downloaded Setup.exe. Pake installs for your user account without administrator rights, and adds shortcuts to the desktop and the Start menu.
The apps you make run on the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, which Windows 11 already includes. When it is missing, Pake shows Apps made with Pake need the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime with a Get WebView2 link to Microsoft's download page.
Where your apps go
| Mac | Windows | |
|---|---|---|
| App folder | /Applications, or ~/Applications when that is not writable | %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Pake Apps\<name> |
| How you open them | Launchpad, Spotlight or Finder | The Start menu |
| How you remove them | My Apps in Pake, see Manage your apps | My Apps in Pake, or Settings › Apps |
Uninstall Pake
- Mac: quit Pake and move it to the Trash.
- Windows: remove Pake in Settings › Apps. Your license and the gallery cache in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Pakestay, so a reinstall picks them up again.
The apps you made keep working after Pake is gone, since they do not depend on Pake or its license. On Windows you can still remove them from Settings › Apps.
