Create an App

Everything starts on the Create tab, in the field that reads Search apps or paste a web address.

  • Paste an address to open its app page. A bare host such as example.com gets https:// added. On Mac a pasted address opens at once, and a typed one opens with Return or Continue.
  • Type a name to search the gallery, then click a site or press Return for the best match.
  • If the address belongs to a site in the gallery, Pake opens that site's tuned page with your address filled in.

Pake looks up the site while you type, then fills in the page title as the name and the site's icon, unless you already typed a name.

Name, address and icon

  • Name: the app's name in the Dock, Finder or the Start menu.
  • Address (URL on Windows): an http or https address. A green check means it is valid.
  • Icon: the site's icon by default. Click Choose… or drop an image on the row to use your own, and Remove to go back. When a site has no icon, Pake draws a letter icon.

Advanced

Open Advanced for options most sites never need:

  • User agent: how the app identifies itself to the site. Empty uses the Safari user agent on Mac and the Chrome user agent on Windows.
  • Internal URL regex: links that match this regular expression stay in the app, and other links open in your browser.
  • Inject CSS and Inject JavaScript: your own styles and scripts, applied to every page the app opens.

Build the app

Click Create App. Pake prepares the app, generates the icon, writes the settings and installs it, which takes a few seconds. When it finishes, App Created offers Open, Show in Finder or Show in Explorer, and Done.

  • If an app with the same name is already installed, Pake asks before replacing it, and quits or closes it first when it is running.
  • If the install fails, the previous copy stays in place.
  • Without a license, each new app uses one of your free apps. See License.
